On September 11, Battlefield 6 developer DICE revealed early details of the game’s upcoming battle royale mode, and the change matters because the closing ring now instantly kills players on contact. The reveal comes ahead of the mode’s Battlefield Labs playtest this week and the game’s October 10 release.
On September 11, DICE shared an X post detailing a number of features planned for the BR mode, and one announcement stood out. The studio described the mode as using the “deadliest ring in BR” – the closing circle instantly kills players on contact. That removes the gradual damage mechanic common in Warzone and Fortnite and leaves no margin for error. The post added: “With urgent warnings as the fire approaches, soldiers will be pushed into more intense firefights as the game space continues to shrink,” and continued “There’s no jumping in and out of it, no using it for cover, no walking through it – if you get caught in it, you are done.”

The post also confirmed 100-player lobbies with large-scale destruction and vehicles, keeping the series’ emphasis on big, chaotic matches. It will include the series’ signature classes – Assault, Engineer, Support, and Medic – so squads can mix roles or double down on one specialty. Players can level up classes through Training to unlock gadgets and traits. The mode is referred to as the Firestorm battle royale mode and is due after the main game’s launch, free of charge. Fans can join the Battlefield Labs playtest starting this week. The main game will arrive on October 10.
