Battlefield 6‘s beta exposed widespread complaints about its Netflix-style menus, and developer DICE says it won’t rebuild the UI from scratch before launch but will try to make improvements. The comments came after a week of player criticism during the beta and suggest fixes may arrive in patches after release.
Technical director Christian Buhl told a developer Q&A that “I can’t say exactly what we’ll fix. You know, we’re not going to rebuild our menu from scratch, obviously, between now and launch, but we are looking to improve [based on] some of the biggest feedback.” Buhl added that “it’s probably still going to be a little bit clunky when we launch, but we’re going to continue to improve it going forward.”
The clarification is a bit more concrete than earlier comments about UI work, and points toward incremental updates rather than a complete overhaul. The beta’s Netflix-style layout tries to surface a lot of content up front, which can be annoying when trying to access the mode or server a player actually wants – who likes wading through multiple layers of options? There may be reasons for the design, but players were vocal about the friction.
On the plus side, the game will include free, custom, persistent servers at launch, a welcome old-school feature for those who want proper server browsers and hosted communities, as confirmed in a separate report. This might smooth over some menu annoyances for people who prefer joining specific servers.
