The PS5 open world game will get third-person view and New Game+ in a free December update.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is going to receive a huge boost for its second anniversary thanks to a free update coming in December 2025. It will include a third-person mode and a New Game+ feature, both designed to add new ways to experience the game.

Developed by Massive Entertainment, this update is scheduled to arrive on December 5th, coinciding with the release of the new movie Avatar: The Way of Water. The team has reworked animations, controls, audio, and camera systems to make sure it feels smooth and natural. Honestly, I can’t believe it took this long to get a third-person option in an open-world action game like this, but it’s a welcome change.

The New Game+ mode will carry over your inventory and skills from your initial playthrough. Expect tougher enemies, more powerful gear, and an extra skill tree to invest in, which should add quite a bit of replay value. It’s the kind of update that might make you want to jump back in even if you thought you were done with the game.

Since its launch in 2023, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has received two DLC packs and some free updates, including a rare 40FPS mode for the base PS5. While Ubisoft has stirred some debate by saying microtransactions make games “more fun,” this update serves as a reminder of the ongoing support the game has been receiving without an extra cost.

In our review, we gave the game an 8/10, noting that while it follows some familiar Ubisoft open-world patterns, the lore and focus on harvesting and hunting create an inviting world that’s easy to get lost in. I’m curious how playing in third-person might change that feeling. Will it make the world feel more personal or just different? What about you? Are you the type who prefers third-person or first-person in open-world games?

It’s a solid update for a game that’s been quietly building its audience. If you’ve been waiting for a reason to revisit Pandora or want to try it with a fresh perspective, December might be the perfect time.
