August’s PlayStation Plus Essential Games Include Lies of P and Day Z

PlayStation Plus Essential members can claim three games from August 5, including Lies of P and Day Z.

Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus Essential monthly games for August, and there’s a nice variety to look forward to. These titles will be available to claim starting August 5, for all three PlayStation Plus tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium.

The highlight for many will be Lies of P, a Soulslike game inspired by the dark adventures of Pinocchio. This one is available for both PS5 and PS4 users, which is pretty handy if you haven’t upgraded yet. It’s a bit on the intense side, but if you like challenging combat and a creepy twist on a classic story, this might be right up your alley.

Alongside Lies of P, Day Z will be available as well. This survival game throws you into a post-apocalyptic world crawling with zombies, where staying alive is the main goal. It’s a PS4 title but fully playable on PS5 thanks to backwards compatibility.

Rounding out the lineup is My Hero One’s Justice 2, a 3D arena fighter based on the popular anime series. Like Day Z, it’s a PS4 game but works on PS5 too. So if you enjoy some fast-paced fighting action with your heroes, this could be a fun pick.

All three games will be claimable from August 5 until September 1. Once that window closes, they’ll be swapped out for new titles. And remember, once you claim a game, you can keep playing it as long as you stay subscribed to any PlayStation Plus tier.

There’s also some news about the future of PlayStation Plus. Sony recently announced plans to reduce the focus on PS4 games in the monthly offerings. Starting January 2026, PS4 titles won’t be a key benefit of the service anymore, with more attention shifting to PS5 games. That’s kinda a big change, and I wonder how many players will miss the older generation games being part of the subscription.

So, what do you think of this month’s selection? Are you excited to try Lies of P, or maybe jump back into the zombie-filled world of Day Z?
