The Asus ROG Xbox Ally is stirring up chatter after what appears to be an accidental leak of its price points. A screenshot circulating on social media showed Google store listings that might have revealed pricing for both the standard Asus ROG Xbox Ally and the more powerful Asus ROG Xbox Ally X. If these numbers hold, gamers might be in for a wallet shock.
The leaked prices come from a localized Google search captured in a screenshot shared by 3DJuegos, a Spanish gaming site. The listing put the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X at €899 and the Asus ROG Xbox Ally at €599. Since these are Euro prices, conversions suggest the Ally X could cost just over USD 1000, around CAD 1400, roughly GBP 800, and about AUD 1600. The base Ally would be somewhat cheaper, but still pricey.
What’s surprising here is that the Xbox partnership was expected to bring some pricing relief, possibly through subsidies by Microsoft to make the handheld more affordable. Instead, the Ally X’s price might outpace the original ROG Ally X released earlier in 2024, which hit the market at USD 799 and GBP 799. Yikes.
For a handheld boasting Xbox branding and powerful specs, a price north of $1000 might be a tough sell. But then again, high-end handhelds have been creeping into premium territory lately. Would you drop that kind of cash on the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X?
