Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ latest post-launch update dropped a curious nod to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, a glowing statue of Kassandra tucked inside the new side quest A Puzzlement, and the studio says that statue is not just fan service.
The A Puzzlement mission sends players through an Animus door into a cave in Japan where the statue sits, which prompted questions about how a 2,000-year-old Greek hero ended up with relics in the country. The same patch also included a divisive Attack on Titan collaboration, making the update a notable mix of novelty and controversy for Shadows players. Associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois spoke about the statue and a larger Kassandra thread in an interview with YouTuber JorRaptor. Lemay-Comtois confirmed the team “really want to see Kassandra in there” and that the studio wrote a backstory for why the statue exists.
“We really want to see Kassandra in there,” Lemay-Comtois said. “We have a justification for why there is a Kassandra statue bought by Kassandra in a cave. We might reveal it at some point later. We did our homework. We [didn’t] just drop Kassandra there.”
The developer also hinted at context rather than a throwaway cameo, noting Kassandra would have had a ship and crew in her travels and could have moved items across continents. That suggests any future Kassandra encounters might come with narrative weight rather than a simple cameo. Shadows’ lead has previously signaled the team plans to continue delivering “chunkier updates” through the next year instead of another expansion the size of Claws of Awaji, so any Kassandra content could arrive as part of a larger update rather than a standalone expansion.
