Assassin’s Creed Shadows just reached a pretty cool milestone: over 5 million players have jumped into the game since its release. This latest entry in Ubisoft’s long-running series takes us to feudal Japan for the first time, and despite some rocky moments before launch, it’s now drawing in a solid crowd. Why should you care? Because it means the game’s world and story are sticking with folks, even months after release.
5 Million Players and Counting
Ubisoft announced on the official Assassin’s Creed X account (formerly Twitter) that Assassin’s Creed Shadows surpassed 5 million players. Keep in mind that this number refers to players, not units sold, so it indicates the number of people who have actually played the game. Alongside this milestone, Ubisoft shared some fun stats: the community has racked up 2 billion stealth kills, traveled over 1 billion kilometers, and even petted 38 million animals. Yeah, that last one made me smile!

The game hit 3 million players during a rough patch, so it’s kinda impressive that it climbed all the way to 5 million in about four months. Ubisoft also teased that more updates will be arriving this week, which might help keep the momentum going.
Last month, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows received a significant update that added several notable features. There was a collaboration with a very important Role, introducing a new ally and a fresh quest to the mix. The update also gave players more options, like a Nightmare difficulty mode, toggles for headgear in cutscenes, visual effects controls, an open-world alarm, horse camera presets, and even an ultra-low specs mode for PC players. Oh, and a bunch of bug fixes too, because who doesn’t love a smoother experience?
