Assassin’s Creed franchise boss Marc-Alexis Côté exits Ubisoft amid Tencent-backed Vantage Studios shakeup

Marc-Alexis Côté, a two-decade veteran who rose to lead Assassin’s Creed, is leaving Ubisoft after organizational changes tied to the new Tencent-backed Vantage Studios.

Marc-Alexis Côté, the executive producer who steered Assassin’s Creed through multiple eras, is leaving Ubisoft after more than twenty years with the company. The departure comes during a period of corporate reorganization that includes Tencent’s recent investment and the launch of a new studio meant to handle some of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises.

Earlier this year, Tencent announced that they are investing $1.25 billion for a stake in a new Ubisoft studio. That studio, Vantage Studios, launched this month under Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes and will reportedly work on Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. The timing of Côté’s exit has raised eyebrows because those are precisely the series his teams have shepherded for years.

Ubisoft’s own brand pages have been reshuffled as part of the same process. Fans were already watching the company closely after recent noise about other legacy properties, including a sudden item in the news cycle about Splinter Cell and its Steam return, and reminders that some franchises still feel neglected outside the main lineup. Côté began at Ubisoft as a programmer and engineer, worked on Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood as mission director, and later served as game director for Assassin’s Creed 3. His credits include creative director on Syndicate, senior producer on Odyssey, and executive producer on Valhalla.

IGN is reporting Côté has chosen to leave following the March 2025 restructuring. Christophe Derennes described himself as “disappointed” by the decision and said Côté had “his own expectations and priorities related to Vantage Studios’ creation and future.” Ubisoft issued a statement thanking Côté for his contributions and saying the company is “confident that our talented teams will carry forward the strong foundation he helped build.”

Following the organizational restructuring announced in March 2025, Marc-Alexis Côté has chosen to pursue a new path elsewhere outside of Ubisoft. While we are saddened to see him go, we’re confident that our talented teams will carry forward the strong foundation he helped build.

Côté was one of the constant hands on Assassin’s Creed for the better part of two decades. Leadership changes at that level tend to redirect priorities and day-to-day decisions, and this happens as Ubisoft leans on the newly formed Vantage Studios, backed in part by Tencent’s investment, to handle some of the publisher’s most important series.
