Arrowhead pulls Helldivers 2’s Rupture enemies offline

Studio removes Rupture strain for five weeks after a patch caused problematic enemy behavior.

Arrowhead has taken the new Rupture strain offline in Helldivers 2 for five weeks after an Into the Unjust patch created unintended, aggressive behavior for the burrowing Terminid enemies, including a change that made their lunges especially deadly to mission hosts and then to all players after a subsequent fix.

Rupture Warriors, the burrowing variant of the mainstay Terminid fodder, quickly became the most hated Helldivers hazard after players realized they were more lethal to mission hosts. Hosts reported getting cut down as the creatures lunged out of the sand, while teammates sometimes had a chance to dodge.

Earlier this week, Arrowhead deployed a patch intended to reduce host vulnerability. Instead, the update spread the same aggressive attack behavior to all players, and pushback from the community followed. Many players did not receive this news well, with threads full of clips and complaints about Rupture attacks that felt unavoidable.

Oh you've got to be joking right?

In an announcement, the studio said: “Our patch yesterday combined with other issues regarding the balance of the Rupture Strain have made them function in a way we did not intend,” Arrowhead said. “We’re going to take the Rupture Strain offline at 6pm today CEST. No other units will be affected. The improved Rupture Strain will be back online in 5 weeks.”

Roughly four hours ago, players could once again play without the specific threat of enemies bursting from the sand to sever limbs; the Rupture strain will return after the five-week tuning window.
