Arc Raiders players are divided after the game’s first Expedition Project a voluntary character reset that went live on December 22, 2025. Some raiders say the rewards are underwhelming compared with what they gave up, while others welcome the chance to start over.
Embark was upfront about what the Expedition would do. The studio’s announcement described the Project as an optional way to wipe characters in exchange for permanent account unlocks, unique cosmetics, and buffs for the next Expedition. Players who took part report getting a small stash boost, temporary perks, and the exclusive Patchwork outfit, among other rewards.
That outfit is the clearest flashpoint. Several Reddit posts and comments show raiders disappointed that the cosmetic options are limited and that the outfit doesn’t let you toggle as many elements as other skins. One player said losing access to workbenches and having to re-upgrade them for higher-tier attachments made the play loop feel more grindy than fun. Another bluntly wrote they would not do the Expedition again.
Opposing voices in the community point out that the Expedition was always meant as a prestige-style reset for players who have exhausted other content. Some top comments on the thread argue the whole point is the fresh start, not the loot, and that the cosmetic is a nice bonus rather than a measured payout for lost gear and progress. You can see the responses on the Reddit thread below:
The debate centers on whether the Expedition’s value is the reset itself or the rewards waiting on the far side. That split may prompt Embark to adjust future Expedition rewards or leave the system as a pure optional reset for players who want a new run. We confirmed the Expedition window details and timing in our rundown of the Expedition window, which notes the reset mechanics and the temporary benefits participants receive.
For now, Arc Raiders’ community seems content to treat Expedition as a choice: some feel shortchanged by what they earned, while others say the reset renewed their interest in the game.
