AMD’s upcoming Threadripper 9000 series CPUs will become available for preorder starting next week, according to a leak from a partner retailer. The preorder embargo is expected to lift on July 23, revealing pricing and availability for both the Threadripper 9000X and the PRO 9000WX models.
One of AMD’s U.S. retail partners, B&H Photo Video, has listed several models from the new lineup with preorders starting at 9:00 am ET on July 23. These include the 9965WX with 24 cores at 4.2 GHz, the 9975WX with 32 cores at 4.0 GHz, the 9985WX with 64 cores at 3.2 GHz, and the flagship 9995WX boasting 96 cores at 2.5 GHz.
Tech leaker momomo_us has also shared the listing on X, confirming the preorder date. While prices are not shown on the retailer’s site, VideoCardz has estimated pricing based on SKU analysis. The prices range from roughly $1,600 for the 9960X model up to an eye-watering $13,000 for the top-tier 96-core PRO 9995WX. That’s over $130 per core, which is quite a premium for workstation-grade performance.
These figures represent a price increase of about 30% compared to what many had hoped for with the new Zen 5 architecture chips. Still, unfortunately, this kind of markup has become somewhat expected in the current tech market. Still, these CPUs are designed for serious workloads, so the cost might reflect the performance they deliver.
Hopefully, customers won’t have to wait long after pre-orders open to get their hands on these new chips. Then we can finally get a clearer picture of what the Threadripper 9000 series is capable of and whether their steep price tags are justified for gamers and professionals.
