Amazon Games has confirmed that its MMO New World: Aeternum will be taken offline from all platforms on January 31, 2027. The company says the title will be delisted and no longer available for purchase on January 15, 2026. Starting July 20, 2026, players will no longer be able to buy in-game currency. Players who already own New World will still be able to download and install the game, but it will no longer be playable after the servers are shut down on January 31, 2027. Amazon said it is extending the Nighthaven seasonal content through the shutdown date.
In its update, Amazon wrote:
“New World: Aeternum will officially be taken offline from all platforms on January 31, 2027. On January 15, 2026, the title will be delisted and no longer available for purchase. Players will still be able to play New World: Aeternum on their purchased platform, and we are extending the Nighthaven season until the servers are taken offline on January 31, 2027.”
The company also added a thank-you to the community and described plans to give the game a final year of support: “We want to thank the players for your dedication and passion. We are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special. While we are saddened to say goodbye, we’re honored that we were able to share so much with the community.”
“It has been our pleasure to work on New World: Aeternum and evolve this unforgettable adventure with you all. We look forward to one more year together, and giving this fantastic adventure a sendoff worthy of a legendary hero. From the bottom of all our hearts, thank you for sharing this world with us.”
The announcement follows October reporting that Amazon was moving away from MMO development and that New World would stop receiving new content. Console PC Gaming previously reported that Season 10 would serve as the MMO’s final content release and that the studio planned to pause rollout of additional features as it wound down support for the game.
At the time of the update the game had already been removed from storefronts including Steam and the Xbox store. The wider context for the shutdown includes a large round of Amazon layoffs that affected thousands of jobs and prompted significant reductions at the studios working on New World and an untitled The Lord of the Rings MMO, according to Steve Boom, vice president of Audio, Twitch, and Games. Amazon’s full statement about the game’s future appears on the official New World site and lays out the timeline for delisting, the in-game currency cutoff, and the January 31, 2027 shutdown.
Players who care about Aeternum now have a clear end date to plan around and a final season to experience before the servers close.
