Street Fighter 6 reached a new concurrent-player record on Steam on March 17, 2026, topping out at 72,067 players, data from SteamDB shows. The spike came the same day Capcom released Alex as DLC for the game.
Alex began life as a main character candidate in Street Fighter III, positioned to carry the series as its new protagonist nearly 30 years ago. That era’s mixed reception left Alex as a cult favorite rather than the franchise face Capcom once intended. His addition to Street Fighter 6 appears to have drawn fresh attention to the game regardless of that history.
SteamDB’s charts show the new mark surpassed the previous peak of 70,573 concurrent players recorded in June 2023 at launch. Another earlier spike came in May 2024, when Akuma joined the roster and the game reached about 70,202 concurrent players.
The DLC release coincided with a new balance patch for Tekken 8, a change that generated visible frustration among that community on Reddit and may have nudged some players toward other fighters; that discussion is visible in the Reddit thread here. While multiple factors can influence player counts, the timing suggests Alex was a meaningful draw.
