A DayZ 2 trademark has surfaced, but the timing makes it hard to trust at first glance

A DayZ 2 trademark has appeared at the European Union Intellectual Property Office, giving fresh life to talk of a sequel after years of rumor and quiet hints from Bohemia Interactive.
The listing is only a simple word mark for now, and the application owner has not been revealed because a fee still needs to be paid. That detail, paired with the April 1 filing date, made the timing look suspicious at first glance, even if the trademark itself may still turn out to be genuine.
This is not the first time DayZ 2 has come up. During the Microsoft vs FTC case in 2023, a slide submitted in the evidentiary hearing listed DayZ 2 alongside Bohemia projects such as Arma Reforger and Arma 4, as reported by IGN. Bohemia has stayed quiet since then, though the company has also had plenty on its plate with Arma 4, which is currently planned for next year.
There were also job listings tied to a DayZ series project that surfaced late last year. Some players read those openings as clues for the DayZ Badlands DLC, which is due this year, but the mention of
