A cryptic Instagram post has Uncharted fans talking again

Shaun Escayg shared a new image with the caption "Research…," and fans are reading it as a possible hint at a fresh Uncharted project.

Uncharted fans have another reason to keep an eye on Naughty Dog. Shaun Escayg, who directed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, recently posted a cryptic image on Instagram that has set off talk about a possible new entry in the franchise.

The post showed a cannon overlooking a beachfront city from a cliff, with the simple caption “Research…”. That detail was enough for fans in the comments to start wondering whether Escayg was looking at a new setting for another Uncharted game, though nothing has been confirmed.

The timing only added to the chatter. Around May 2025, Neil Druckmann said Naughty Dog was working on another game alongside Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and that he was in “more of a producer role” on that project. Some fans now think the mystery project could be tied to Uncharted, but that remains unconfirmed.

The series has been quiet for a long stretch. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy arrived in 2017, while Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End came out even earlier. Since then, both games have also been reissued in the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PS5 and PC, which has kept the franchise around without giving players a brand-new chapter.

For now, this is still just fan theory fueled by a social post. If Naughty Dog does have something Uncharted-related cooking, it has not said so publicly.
