The countdown to Marvel Rivals Season 3 is ticking, and NetEase is already shaking things up with a patch that changes how teams can surrender during matches. This tweak may seem minor, but it could save players a lot of frustration in one-sided games.
The patch notes reveal a key adjustment: the number of votes needed for a team to surrender has been lowered. Previously, every player on the team had to agree to call it quits. Now, if a team has six players, only five votes are needed to end the game early. If your team shrinks to five or four players, maybe because of leavers, then you still only need all but one to agree. However, if the team is reduced to two or three members, everyone must vote for surrender.
Why does this matter? Well, getting everyone on board to surrender can be a nightmare, especially when you’re solo and stuck with teammates who want to keep fighting a losing battle. Sometimes you want to quit the misery and move on. But does one stubborn player always deserve to drag everyone else through a hopeless match? I say no.
On the flip side, surrender options can be misused. Some folks might throw in the towel too soon, even when the game is still winnable. It’s a delicate balance between knowing when to fight and when to fold. Ultimately, how well this works depends on the players you end up with, and we all know that can be a wild card.
Besides the surrender changes, this patch also addresses bugs for several characters. Winter Soldier’s ultimate ability can no longer be interrupted abnormally when Captain America uses his Team-Up ability simultaneously. Magneto, Mister Fantastic, Iron Fist, and Doctor Strange also received minor tweaks to smooth out gameplay quirks.
NetEase hints that more surprises are to come, promising that the Marvel Rivals universe will continue to evolve with fresh updates and content. I’m curious what new tricks they have up their sleeves for Season 3, Blade and Phoenix joining the roster sounds promising!
What do you think about the surrender vote change? Is it a fair way to let teams escape bad matches, or does it risk cutting matches short too often? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
