Echoes of the End has finally received its first patch aimed at tackling the nasty stuttering issues that plagued the game since launch. For anyone who tried this single-player action-adventure and got frustrated by the constant freezes, this update matters a lot.
Developers at Myrkur Games found out that the stuttering was caused by shaders not being adequately captured for precompilation. They’ve now fixed that, which makes a big difference. After trying the patch myself, I can say it cuts down most of the heavy stutters. Yet, some minor traversal stutters remain, which feel like a familiar headache for anyone who’s played Unreal Engine 5 titles. Considering Echoes of the End runs on UE5.5.3, it’s a bit of a bummer these issues still show up.
Sadly, the patch doesn’t fix everything. NVIDIA Reflex stays unusable, no matter what you try, it won’t turn on. Also, there’s no DLSS Frame Generation setting, even though AMD FSR 3.1 is supported. I gave AMD’s FSR 3.1 Frame Gen a spin, but the camera movement felt off, not as smooth as you’d expect, even at 100 FPS. Guess they’re still ironing out some kinks.
While this patch won’t transform Echoes of the End into a flawless masterpiece, it stops the game from freezing every few minutes, which is already a relief. Now it’s playable without constant frustration. I’ll be testing it across several AMD and NVIDIA GPUs soon, and our PC Performance Analysis should go live later this weekend. Also, a new RTX 5090 is arriving shortly, so I might hold off publishing until I can include that data.
Echoes of the End is a third-person action-adventure that tries to mix a personal, emotional story with magic, sword fights, exploration, and puzzles. Inspired by Iceland, it aims to immerse players in a distinct fantasy world. You play as Ryn, a powerful magic user fighting to save her brother from a ruthless empire. Alongside Abram Finlay, a scholar with a troubled past, they uncover secrets that could ignite an ancient war and plunge the world of Aema into chaos. It’s a story about trust, redemption, and sacrifice in a world on the brink of conflict.
So, is this patch enough to bring players back? Maybe. It’s a start, but there’s still work to do. At least you won’t have to deal with constant freezes anymore, and that’s something.
Feel free to share your thoughts or experiences with the patch in the comments below. I am Angel, and until next time, see you around!
