Dune: Awakening has seen some wild moments since it launched earlier this year, but one player’s quick thinking during a sandworm encounter has really stood out. The clip shows a player narrowly escaping a sandworm’s attack in a way that impressed even the game’s developers.
Reddit user BarrelDivesNSplitJs attempts to board an ornithopter in the desert, which instantly draws the attention of a massive sandworm. Instead of getting swallowed whole, the player uses a jetpack to lift off just in time, hovering barely out of reach of the creature’s enormous mouth. The ornithopter itself stays unscathed, which is pretty impressive given how close the worm got.
In a comment, BarrelDivesNSplitJs admits, “Shai-Hulud showed up as expected, and it wouldn’t let me in the thopter to save my life… I wrote off my loyal ship and was able to yeet myself away. Yes, I pissed my pants, yes my still suit saved the piss.” That’s a pretty honest reaction, don’t you think? It’s kinda relatable when a moment like that hits you.
The clip is a few weeks old but recently got a shoutout from the official Dune: Awakening Twitter. The devs quoted the famous phrase, “Fear is the mind-killer,” and praised the escape using a combination of Bindu Sprint and a Full Suspensor Belt. Wow, even the creators are impressed by the moves players come up with.
