Company of Heroes 3 is getting a juicy update called Opal Scorpion (2.1.0) on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025. This patch is loaded with five new maps, multiplayer balance shifts, new cosmetic sets, and several gameplay improvements. If you’ve been eager for fresh battlegrounds and tweaks, this one’s for you!
Let’s kick things off with the new maps. The devs teamed up with community creators to polish these bad boys and add them to the automatch map pool. Each map offers a different fight vibe and team setup:
- Tuscan Vineyards – 1 vs 1: Kpen returns with this lush Italian setting full of dense hedgerows and tricky river crossings. Perfect for those who love tight, tactical duels.
- El Alamein – 2 vs 2: The iconic North African battle zone makes its debut with wide desert flanks and a central rail compound. Cover is scarce, so expect fast, brutal fights.
- Lorraine – 2 vs 2: TheSphinx brings back a classic Company of Heroes 1 map, a bombed-out rural town recreated with eye-popping detail. Nostalgia and fresh tactics collide here.
- Gabès Gap – 3 vs 3: Command the battle of Wadi Akarit, balancing control between a single road, salt flats, and fortified beaches. Neglecting any side can leave your team vulnerable to flanks.
- Red Ball Express – 4 vs 4: DutchToast debuts a 4v4 map with grinding forest lanes and daring spearheads, a nod to fans of the original Company of Heroes classics.
Cosmetics get a nice boost too. Four new Legendary sets drop, one for each faction, available for Merit or War Bonds. From the US Forces’ amphibious assault look to the Wehrmacht’s war-torn gear, these skins bring fresh flavor to the battlefield. The British Forces get a sand-tinted “Desert Rose” set, while the Deutsches Afrikakorps sport the sneaky “Desert Cats” camo, perfect for ambush tactics.
Here’s a neat change: the previously Prime Gaming-exclusive Nightfighter cosmetic packs will soon be in the in-game store, rolling out over weeks so everyone can grab them. Finally!
Gameplay improvements are pretty solid:
- Breach system got a full makeover—now it’s faster, more dependable, and you can cancel it before damage happens. Plus, units teleport inside if the enemy runs out, no more awkward door animations.
- Towing is smoother and quicker.
- Instant-Reload Abilities like smoke screens now work better during reload cycles, helping with combat flow.
- Auto-Reinforce won’t cancel if you move out of range anymore.
- Improved capture behavior means squads hold their cover better instead of awkwardly moving closer to capture points.
- Wrecks are tougher to crush accidentally, and heavy vehicle wrecks can’t be crushed at all, making tank assaults more strategic.
- The game is now localized in Ukrainian and Russian, expanding accessibility.
Multiplayer balance also sees some updates. Grenades pack more punch on direct hits. Stealth mechanics have been reworked to be less oppressive, requiring smarter positioning rather than blanket invisibility. Artillery emplacements are tougher, making mobile artillery less dominant, and minesweepers now gain experience for their support roles. Several units have gotten new abilities or adjusted veterancy bonuses to spice things up.
